Theatre is one of the central artistic expressions of the Urgyen Art Festival 2026. Across three days, the festival brings powerful stories and performances to the stage, creating opportunities to experience history, society, literature, and human values through live performance.
The theatre programme will be presented at “Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir”, alongside the festival’s exhibitions, film screenings, meditation workshops, and discussions.

Shivaji Underground in Bhimnagar Mohalla
Popular and critically acclaimed Marathi play. It was written by Rajkumar Tangde and directed by Nandu Madhav. The production focuses on a humane and alternative look at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, using satire and comedy to critique how political groups use historical figures.

‘Kabir’ (The life and struggle of the rebellious saint Kabir) is a Marathi play written by Sanjay Jivane that sheds light on the philosophy, rebellious spirit, and fight for social equality of the great 15th-century saint Kabir. The play highlights the contemporary relevance of Kabir’s ideas and his life’s struggle.

स्टोरी शिवराज्याभिषेकाची
This is a grand musical play that presents the true, lesser-known history behind Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation, backed by evidence. Based on the research of renowned historian Indrajit Sawant, the production features Kiran Mane in a powerful lead role.
